Below is a snapshot of a typical “date based” method of organizing your images on your computer.
- Don’t change if you already have a good filing system where you can easily find photos
- If you do adopt a new system such as this, first create a year and month folder system for the current year, then start uploading photos from now on to your new structure, by creating new subjects under the relevant month.
- Only go back and reclassify old photos into folders for prior year/month/subject if you find the new method useful. Otherwise the job becomes too big and you may give up and find yourself in an even bigger mess.
- An alternate way to organize is to make the top level by Subject, then use sub-subject and year/month as subfolders
